Monstera's are monstrous plants that can grow to heights of 20 metres (66 ft for our friends from the U.S.) in trees. They achieve these great heights by climbing trees via aerial roots, which act as hooks over branches. While they root as they climb, these spectacular specimens also root into the soil for stability. This growth structure makes the Monstera an hemiepiphyte (not related to the Greek Goddess you silly goose).
